2008 rules and regulations

Welcome to the Ohio Sporting Clays Championship!

Thank you for attending the 2008 Ohio State Sporting Clays Championship at our host club Hill ‘n Dale Club in Medina, Ohio. It is our board’s desire that everyone have a pleasant experience shooting at this year’s championship. We want to pass along a few reminders that will make everyone’s weekend a most enjoyable and memorable time. Hope to see all of you at our Saturday Cocktail Party!!!

Start Times – In order for us to keep each event on time and working in an orderly manner, we want to remind you to be at your designated shooting stand at least 10 minutes before the start of the event. Scorekeepers and event managers must be able to verify your presence and the shoot order prior to the start. Be sure to leave AMPLE travel time and check on the course layout map at the clubhouse to find your station.

Squad Rotations – We expect to be at capacity in the number of shooters for the championship. It will be extremely important that your squad rotate in the assigned order. Please do not move ahead of another squad or shoot the stations out of order unless instructed to do so by your scorekeeper or event manager. The top five scores (determined by pre-existing tiebreakers) from Saturday’s main event will shoot together in a SUPER SQUAD on Sunday at 12 noon. An OSCA referee will accompany the SUPER SQUAD in order to resolve potential conflicts. The station scorekeeper will still make all the initial calls. If a shooter on the SUPER SQUAD disputes on call on "lost/dead" targets or on "no target," he may ask the referee for a ruling. The referee may, but need not, poll the squad before ruling. The referee's ruling on "lost/dead" or "no target" is final and cannot be appealed to the protest committee. All other disputes must be presented to the protest committee. See "Official Protest" below.

Scorekeepers - Remember that the scorekeeper is in charge of the shooting stand and works at the direction of the shoot management. It is your responsibility as the shooter to ensure that your score has been marked properly on your scorecard BEFORE leaving the station. Scorecards will not be changed after you leave the shooting station. All scorecards are to be turned into the scorekeeper before leaving your last station.

Sportsmanlike Conduct – Any un-sportsmanlike conduct or language WILL NOT be tolerated. Anyone that disrupts the harmony of the tournament can and will be expelled with no refunds by the board or shoot management. Also, please observe all speed limits, and designated parking areas for cars, RV’s, and trailers.

Official Protest – Shoot management will designate an official shoot committee who
will rule on any protest. The procedure for filing a protest will be as follows: A. Must be in writing signed by the shooter and competitor. B. Written protest must be presented to shoot management between the start of Saturday’s rotation and the end of Sunday’s rotation. C. There must be $100 filing fee submitted with the written protest. D. A ruling in favor of the protest will result in the return of the $100 filing fee. A ruling not in favor of the protest will be donated to the trappers.

Safety First – Safe shooting is no accident. All competitors and spectators will be required to wear eye and ear protection. All guns, unless carried in a gun case, must be carried with the breech or chamber open except when in the shooting stations.

Ammunition - Factory ammo only for all 12 gauge events. Loads shall not exceed 2 ¾” x 3 ¼ dram x 1 1/8 oz x 7 ½. NO RELOADS will be allowed in any event. Many brands of ammo will be available for sale in the pro shop. Automatic disqualification if reloads are used.

Shoot-off’s – There will be shoot-offs in the main event to decide all ties for champion, runner-up and 1st place in class. All others decided by total score on pre-determined stations. Ties in the five stand will be shot off for Champion and runner-up and class champion only. All concurrents and others will be decided by long run. All Friday ties for champion and class champion will be shot off Saturday evening. All others decided by pre-determined stations.

Eligibility – Shooters who are residents of the State of Ohio are eligible for state trophies and awards for the Ohio Championship and classes. All money will stay open to all shooters (including out of state). All non-classified shooters must shoot Sportsman’s class for trophies only or you must declare into AA class to participate and be eligible for cash and prizes. Shooters must shoot 300 registered targets in the current shoot year or be subject to shoot in a penalty class, one class above his or her current class.
